Top Feature Releases of 2017
As 2017 comes to a close, we’ve taken a look back at Learnosity’s biggest releases of the last 12 months.
Filtering Options for Author API
Filtering options limit access to specific content based on customer rules, while also making browsing and searching easier. Authors can now filter the Item list to show a group of Items that:
- Have the same Tag
- Users can now Tag their Items in Learnosity. This gives users the ability to search for a group of Items with a particular Tag or Tags. It also allows users to report on student performance on a particular set of Items. Learn more >
- Were created by the same user
- Are owned by a particular organization
- Are not a specified item
Activity Editor for Author API
The Activity Editor allows authors to easily pick Items for inclusion in an Activity. It allows authors to set the individual Activity configurations.
The Simple Authoring mode is an opinionated subset of the full authoring templates and layouts available by default. This enables a more simple format, making it suitable for users who don’t require the full suite of functionality – for example, teachers.

Shared Passages for Author API
With Shared Passages, you can reuse the same passage as many times as you want. This means that there’s no longer a need to create the same passage over and over again for multiple Items.
To use an existing passage on an item, follow the steps below:
- Create an item as normal. You will notice three vertical dots appearing in the top right-hand corner of the item
- Click through to Find existing passage
- This will take you to a list of all passages previously created. From here you can search by content, preview and select the passage you wish to use.
Action Builder for Author API
Using the Action Builder enables you to autoplay audio and video, auto-record audio, disable navigation, and disable the student from interacting with the Question.
File Upload Question Type
The File Upload question type allows students to upload a file to Learnosity, for review by the teacher. This question is not auto-scored. The accepted file extensions are:
- Microsoft Word
- Open Office documents
Paginated passages allow the student to be presented with multiple passages, like pages in a book, by clicking left and right arrow buttons underneath a passage.
Apple now supporting Web RTC on iOS
Web RTC allows for powerful real-time handling of audio and video in a web browser. Apple now includes support for Web RTC in the Safari browser on iOS, joining the list of other browsers that support Learnosity’s audio recording question.
Image Drag & Drop V2
The new drag and drop question type allows authors to create questions with a background image where students can drag and drop their responses into predefined drop zones. The student response can be in the form of text or images, and the question type allows students to have multiple responses for a single drop zone. Authors can set the dimension of images for individual responses, which will be scaled automatically when dropped into the drop zones by students, hence authors do not have to worry about matching the dimensions of the responses with the drop zones.
Item analysis report
Item analysis reports test the reliability of the item bank, helping to measure its “test” effectiveness. This analysis looks at student responses, based on the underlying questions in the bank, to determine the quality of those items, and of the test as a whole.
Aggregate reporting is a sophisticated tool for analyzing the results of large cohorts up to 200,000 users. Aggregate reports provide a browsable view of assessment results, summarized into custom-defined groupings of users.
Learnosity Status Page
Learnosity now has a live API & Infrastructure status page. This page is designed to give users real-time information on the current status of Learnosity APIs, grouped by functionality and region.
